With a clear focus on Purposeful AI, Computing Futures, Digital Science & Sustainable Futures, we continue to invest in foundational research on computing science and its intersection with physical, biological, mathematical, and behavioral science.
TCS Research carries out Foundational Research through the following 12 Research Areas: -

  • Computing Systems: The Computing Systems research area focuses on the development of cost effective, high performing fault tolerant systems for modern applications.
  • Cybersecurity & Privacy: The Cybersecurity & Privacy research area focuses on designing methods, technologies, and tools that positively influence both the theory and practice of cybersecurity and privacy, spanning the whole range of needs created by digital technologies.
  • Data & Decision Sciences: The Data & Decision Sciences research area undertakes cutting-edge research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and analytics to create enterprise automation offerings.
  • Deep Learning & AI: The Deep Learning & AI research area works on developing robust, readily deployable enterprise AI solutions by solving challenges that include - missing or noisy training data, changing privacy regulations, heavy compute and memory requirements, lack of interpretability and principled techniques for imbibing causal information and explicit domain knowledge into DL models.
  • Embedded Devices & Intelligent Systems: The Embedded Devices and Intelligent Systems research area focuses on intelligent sensing systems that are the building blocks of perceptive machines. The work is centered on computational sensing, signal processing, embedded computing, and their new research paradigms.
  • Robotics & Autonomous Systems: The Robotics & Autonomous Systems research area conducts research in the field of intelligent autonomous systems with special focus on physical autonomous systems such as robots, vehicles, aerial as well as space systems.
  • Foundations of Computing: The Foundations of Computing research area aims to apply the fundamental concepts of computer science – such as logic, formal methods and artificial intelligence – to the development of complex dependable systems. They develop tools and technologies that help in the development and analysis of complex intelligent systems.
  • Life Sciences: The core focus of the life sciences research area team is computational genomics. This involves researching and designing solutions that employ a combination of artificial intelligence, cognitive computing capabilities, robotic process automation, the internet of things, and cloud computing to fully digitize the life sciences value chain.
  • Media, Entertainment & Advertising: The Media, Entertainment & Advertising research area conducts applied research in technologies that enable understanding, composition and monetization of entertainment, media and advertising. Their work draws upon multi-disciplinary advances in artificial intelligence to analyze media in a multimodal context.
  • Physical Sciences: The physical sciences research area combines the fields of material design, discovery, and deployment with advanced information systems. The work contributes to material sciences at every stage by conducting experiments, creating models based on the observations, and then building on these models to simulate various scenarios.
  • Software Systems & Services: The software systems and services research area focuses on a wide-ranging set of problems faced by modern enterprises from strategy to business processes to software systems. The endeavor is to come up with novel hyper-automation centric solutions that integrate proven ideas from fields such as software engineering, modeling & simulation, program analysis & synthesis, AI and control theory.
  • Behavioural, Business & Social Sciences: This Behavioral, Business & Social Sciences research area develops methods, tools, platforms, and offerings to capture, analyze, and change human behavior in various contexts. Their work uses a multi-disciplinary approach which lies at the intersection of the behavioral and social sciences, computer science, sensing, design and games.
